Bank accounts and statements
How to add your bank accounts, import their movements with the bank's file and check they match the books.
In Banks, press Add account and enter its name, IBAN and currency. Each account has its own ledger sub-account (for example 57200001), where its movements are posted. An account you no longer use can be closed, for good, with Close account.
Import the statement
Download the movements from online banking, in Norma 43 format (Cuaderno 43, which every Spanish bank offers) or camt.053. Press Import statement and choose the file.
Before importing you'll see which accounts it holds, their balances and how many movements are new. Those already imported aren't repeated, even when statements overlap.
Movements and balance
Each account shows its movements, newest first, with the balance after each one. If the movements don't add up to the balance the bank gives, NaPa warns you: a statement is missing.
Balance against the ledger compares, on each date a statement closes, the bank's balance with its sub-account's and explains the difference: movements to reconcile, entries not reconciled or reconciled on another date. Whatever is left unexplained points to a missing statement or movement, or an entry posted to the bank by mistake.
The next step is reconciling the movements.
